Dr Nikolay Cherkasov
Founder & Managing Director
Nikolay is an experienced researcher and entrepreneur. He has extensive knowledge in heterogeneous catalysis having 50 scientific publications and securing £2.5M grant funding from various sources. He is a member of IchemE, a graduate of Innovate UK’s ICURe programme and won an Enterprise Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering. He leads the company day-to-day operations and business development.
Business Development Director
Quentin Compton-Bishop is an experienced CEO, board director and entrepreneur. Prior to joining Stoli Catalysts, he was CEO of Warwick Ventures, responsible for research commercialisation at the University of Warwick.
Prior to Warwick Ventures, he was a co-founder and CEO of a number of technology start-ups, including P2i, a global leader in protective nano-coatings, and RolaTube Technology. Quentin has an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, a Cranfield MBA and a Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma.
Other senior roles have been with renewable energy, software and mobile phone businesses. Quentin has an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, a Cranfield MBA and Chartered Institute of Marketing Diploma. He was also a director of the Sustainable Energy Academy and a co-developer of its SuperHomes programme.
Professor Evgeny Rebrov
CSO & Founder
Evgeny, a full professor of Chemical Engineering since 2010, specialises in catalytic reaction engineering, multiphase reactors, microreactors and transient reactor operation. He has over 20 years of experience in catalyst development, including close collaboration with industrial companies such as DSM, Albemarle BV, Janssen Pharmaceutical NV, IMM-Fraunhofer, Chemtrix and Lionix.
Head of Sales
Matthew joined Stoli Catalysts to focus on their commercial activities. He has a background in Chemistry with a BSc and MSc and is also a chartered Chemist. He obtained a Global MBA from Oxford Brookes to strengthen his 15+ years of technical sales experience to the International Market. Matthew has worked for FTSE100 companies, venture capitalist companies and also with privately owned companies and start-ups.
Chair of Technology Advisory Board
Fred heads the Technology Advisory Board. He retired in 2015 from the role of technical director for Johnson Matthey for Catalysts & Chiral technologies Business’s Global R&D group, managing 5 sites globally and 50 people. The business was centred within the Pharmaceutical/Fine Chemical Market. He has more than 30 years of experience in heterogeneous catalysis and fine chemical synthesis.
Technical Product Specialist
Daniel is an accomplished Chemist having received his MChem degree from the University of Southampton with a focus in nanocomposite materials in the field of sustainable chemistry. Since joining Stoli Catalysts, Daniel has been instrumental in the development of the SABRe reactor and is best placed to discuss the benefits to customers.
Dr Martin Lok
Member of Technology Advisory Board
Martin has over 40 years’ experience in industrial catalysis, mostly heterogeneous, in a variety of areas like biorenewables, hydrogenation, gas-to-liquids, catalyst preparation. He is an expert on process scale-up from to production. He has more than 30 patents, 70 scientific papers and several book chapters. Martin advises Stoli on process scale-up.
Dr Samuel Adams
R&D Team Lead
Sam has over 8 years’ experience in synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry, with a focus on transition metal complexes and surface science. He has extensive experience in the characterisation of molecular species and functional materials from magnetic particles to light responsive sensor surfaces. Sam specialises in catalysis and process safety and development, prototyping and 3D modelling.
Professor Volker Hessel
Member of Technology Advisory Board
Prof. Hessel has a distinguished career in research and innovation. He was a Vice Director R&D at IMM from 2002, and Director R&D from 2007. In 2005 and 2011, Prof. Hessel was appointed as part-time and full professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, respectively. He was honorary professor at TU Darmstadt, Germany 2009-2018, and is guest professor at Kunming University of Science and Technology. Prof. Hessel is (co-)author of > 450 peer-reviewed (h index>70). He received the AIChE Award “Excellence in Process Development Research” in 2007, the ERC Advanced Grant “Novel Process Windows” in 2010, the ERC Proof of Concept Grant in 2017, the IUPAC ThalesNano Prize in Flow Chemistry in 2016, and the FET OPEN Grant in 2016. In 2018, he was appointed Deputy Dean Research and professor at the University of Adelaide in Australia.
Ahmed is has a BEng and MEng in biomedical engineering from Trinity College Dublin. His particular expertise is instrumentation amplification and analog circuit design. At Stoli, Ahmed focuses on product development for efficient chemicals manufacture.
Dr Joe Socci
Joe joined Stoli Catalysts after receiving a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Aston University. He has a background in industrial catalysis and advanced thermal conversion technologies and has been on the board of directors of a successful waste to energy start-up company. At Stoli, Joe works on hydrodynamics of multi-phase flow and process development.
Finance & Facilities Manager
Natalia has background in economics and is in the process of obtaining a chartered accountant status via Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Natalia oversees the finances and operations of Stoli Catalysts.
